About Micah Westing

Micah Westing is an advocate for the rights and betterment of the neurodivergent in society. As a member of this subsection of society he knows and understands the unique issues the neurodivergent face and stands in solidarity with people who struggle with these issues. Micah currently resides in Texas where he tries to survive the Texas summer heat and looks forward to retiring somewhere cooler, preferably with lots of snow-covered mountains surrounding him.

Growing up neurodivergent made the feelings of insecurity and the task of discovering who I was so hard, it became impossible at times. The worse part for me was how isolated I became, as though I was the only person who had ever felt this way. My family and society at the time saw, often continues to see, neurodivergence as something that is shameful, something that should be hidden. This leaves neurodivergent people alone without support or help, which makes it that much harder to developed into the people they are meant to be. I write about these issues because being neurodivergent shouldn't isolate a person. The very thing that makes someone neurodivergent often makes that person so talented and amazing in other ways that neuronormative people aren't, that it is something that needs be be celebrated and developed, the good and bad, so they receive the help needed with the negative issues AND help developing the talents they have so they, their loved ones, and society can benefit from the uniqueness of each of these people. By writing protagonists that deal with the wide spectrum of these issues I hope the ahead light on how this isolated group feels, and show society how beneficial neurodivergent people can be.
